Meet the Team

Founder & CEO
Valerie (Val) Avila-Thammavong
Valerie “Val” Avila is the Founder and CEO of Monarch. With over a decade of experience in ASL interpreting and organizational leadership, Val is committed to reshaping how interpreting agencies and consulting services operate—centering community partnership, ethical practice, and sustainable systems. As a proudly disabled, neurodivergent (ADHD) founder, she believes that difference is not a deficit and that meaningful work is built by recognizing the strengths people already bring.
Val approaches leadership with a growth mindset, learning across generations and knowledge systems—from lived experience and community wisdom to research and data. Grounded in collaboration, she is passionate about expanding access, strengthening relationships, and supporting an interpreting field that is accountable, inclusive, and responsive. Through her leadership, Monarch works to create lasting impact for interpreters, Deaf communities, and the organizations they serve.

Vendor Partner
Angela (AV) Vilavong
Hi there! I’m Angela Vilavong, but most folks call me AV. I’m a Deaf Interpreter with over 8 years of experience working across a wide range of settings including conferences, education, social media, music festivals, and more. I bring heart, cultural awareness, and professionalism to every space I step into.
I’m always learning and growing, staying up to date with industry trends and best practices to make sure I show up fully for the communities I serve.
Beyond interpreting, you’ll often find me giving back through nonprofit work, supporting and uplifting others wherever I can. I’m known for being down-to-earth, humble, and open to everyone I meet. I also love to travel, explore new places, and check out local gems, especially the kind with great food and good vibes.
Let’s connect, whether it’s for work, community, or sharing new adventures!
