Valerie (Val) Avila-Thammavong

Valerie “Val” Avila is the Founder and CEO of Monarch. With over a decade of experience in ASL interpreting and organizational leadership, Val is committed to reshaping how interpreting agencies and consulting services operate—centering community partnership, ethical practice, and sustainable systems. As a proudly disabled, neurodivergent (ADHD) founder, she believes that difference is not a deficit and that meaningful work is built by recognizing the strengths people already bring.

Grounded in collaboration, she is passionate about expanding access, strengthening relationships, and supporting an interpreting field that is accountable, inclusive, and responsive. Through her leadership, Monarch works to create lasting impact for interpreters, Deaf communities, and the organizations they serve.
